  • Author: Lina
  • Total Time: 1 hour 38 minutes
  • Yield: 16 servings 1x

Description

A soft, chewy, giant chocolate chip cookie cake topped with tangy-sweet cream cheese frosting. This easy-to-make dessert is perfect for parties, birthdays, and feeding a crowd without the stress of individual cupcakes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (226g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup (200g) granulated sugar
  • 1 cup (220g) light brown sugar, packed
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 ¼ cups (280g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups (340g) chocolate chips (mix of semi-sweet and milk)
  • 8 oz (225g) full-fat block cream cheese, softened
  • ½ cup (113g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 34 cups (360-480g) powdered sugar, sifted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ¼ teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease two 9-inch round cake pans and line bottoms with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, beat softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy (3-4 minutes).
  3. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in 2 teaspoons vanilla extract.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and 1 teaspoon salt.
  5. Gradually add dry ingredients to wet ingredients on low speed. Stop mixing as soon as flour disappears to avoid tough cookies.
  6. Fold in chocolate chips by hand.
  7. Divide dough evenly between prepared pans. Press out evenly to edges to about ½ inch thickness.
  8. Bake for 15-18 minutes until edges are golden brown and center is set but slightly soft. Rotate pans halfway through.
  9. Cool in pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  10. While cookies cool, beat softened cream cheese and ½ cup butter until smooth.
  11. Add powdered sugar, 1 teaspoon vanilla, and ¼ teaspoon salt. Beat on low until combined, then increase speed until fluffy.
  12. Place one cookie layer on a serving plate. Spread a layer of frosting. Top with second cookie layer and spread remaining frosting over the top.
  13. Chill in fridge for 30 minutes before slicing for cleaner cuts.

Notes

Ensure all ingredients (butter, eggs, cream cheese) are at room temperature for best texture. Do not overbake; cookies will firm up as they cool. Sift powdered sugar to prevent gritty frosting. Chill the finished cake before serving for easier slicing.
