Description
A sophisticated, refreshing, and spicy non-alcoholic drink made with fresh blackberries, ginger, lime, and sparkling water or ginger beer. It offers a complex flavor profile that pairs well with savory foods and is ready in under 10 minutes.
Ingredients
- 1 cup fresh blackberries (150g)
- 1–2 tablespoons simple syrup or honey
- 1-inch piece fresh ginger root, peeled and sliced into thin coins
- 1 tablespoon fresh lime juice
- 1 cup sparkling water or ginger beer (or a 50/50 mix)
- Ice (large cubes preferred)
- Optional garnish: fresh mint leaves, rosemary sprig, or extra blackberry
Instructions
- Peel the ginger root using a teaspoon and slice it into thin coins.
- Place the blackberries, ginger slices, and sweetener (simple syrup or honey mixed with a little warm water) into a heavy-bottomed glass.
- Muddle the ingredients firmly for 30-45 seconds to crush the berries and bruise the ginger to release juices and oils.
- Squeeze in the fresh lime juice and add about half a cup of ice.
- Stir gently to dissolve the sweetener and mix the lime with the berry juice.
- Top with ginger beer or sparkling water, pouring slowly down the side of the glass to preserve carbonation.
- Garnish with fresh mint, rosemary, or a skewered blackberry and serve immediately.
